RECOMMENDATIONS TO PARTIES TO THE UNFCCC ON HUMAN RIGHTS CONSISTENT CLIMATE ACTION IN 2023

Index Number: IOR 40/6785/2023

The climate crisis is a human rights crisis that is worsening day by day. Rapid and sustained action is needed if the increase in global average temperatures is to be kept within 1.5°C, a target likely to be breached by 2027 without course correction.

At COP28, parties to the UNFCCC must take bold and human rights consistent measures on fossil fuel phase out, loss and damage, climate finance, and the Global Stocktake (GST), and guarantee meaningful public participation to meet their human rights obligations and to protect the human rights of all, now and in the future. This briefing provides recommendations to parties to the UNFCCC ahead of the Bonn Climate Change Conference in June 2023 which will inform negotiations at COP28 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in November/December 2023.
